San Marcos · Opening January 2027

Your second half starts Sunday.

Exercise you’ll actually show up for. Coached, non-contact catch and pass with a crew. Your first session is free.

  • No tryouts.
  • No tackling.
  • No bench.
  • No team to join.

What it is

Catch and pass, coached.

Second Half is coached, non-contact catch and pass for grown-ups. You throw, you run routes, you catch, you sprint a little (smartly), and you play a real game. Drop in whenever it fits your week. There's no team to join and no season to commit to, just a crew ready to play when you show up.

It's exercise you'll actually show up for: a workout disguised as a game, with a community built around it. Come twice a week or twice a month. Every level, every background. Everyone plays.

  • No tackling. No blocking.
  • Every level welcome.
  • No bench. Everyone plays.
  • Drop-in. No season required.

It started with a group of friends who wanted to throw and catch a football again. One Sunday turned into every Sunday, the game got rules, and people on the sideline kept asking to jump in. No ads, no app, no sign-up sheet. That's when the idea was born: a lot of grown-ups were just waiting for someone to say, you're in.

The Rotation, drawn as a play Three players in one lane with cones every five yards. The center snaps to the quarterback, the receiver goes in motion and runs a slant, shown as one orange arrow. A catch earns the yards to the cone, rounded down. 0 5 10 15 20 CENTERQBREC Catch at 14 yards = 10 yards. 100 yards = a touchdown. Then rotate.
The Rotation: one throws, one catches, one snaps. Everyone plays every position.

Three ways to play

Practice. Squad. League.

Practices and Squads are drop-in: book the ones that fit your week. League Coming soon is there if you want a season. It's never required.

Practice

75 minutes · Tuesday and Thursday evenings · $29 drop-in

Get good again. A coached workout through sport, open to all levels. A 10-minute warm-up, build-up sprints, stations for throwing, routes, catching and snaps, then team games.

Squad

90 minutes · Sunday mornings · $15 drop-in

Hosted pickup built around The Rotation, the game that started it all. Grouped by level: Rookie, Varsity and All-Pro. Trios rotate QB, receiver and center for four quarters. The receiver gets the workout; the center gets a breather.

League Coming soon

8 weeks + the Second Half Bowl

Optional. Rotation League (Rookie and Varsity) or All-Pro Flag League, with stats, a Game Ball vote and a championship day where every team plays.

Also: 90-minute clinics on one skill (QB School, Sprint and Speed, Hands School), $49, or $35 with a Starter Membership. Unlimited and Founding Memberships include 1 a month.

Levels

Your level sets the defense.

That's it. Levels just make sure you're playing at the right speed. Move up when you're ready, or move down any day, no questions asked.

Rookie · green

Rookie

No defense.

New, or back after years away. Nobody defends you. The other team counts the clock and spots the ball.

Varsity · blue

Varsity

Shadow defense.

You've played and want some competition. Defenders cover you and can knock down or intercept a pass. The play ends at the catch. No contact, no flag pulling.

All-Pro · black

All-Pro

5v5 flag.

For former high school or college players who want speed and scheme. Rushers and flag pulls. Still no tackling and no blocking, ever.

Rookie Day

Your first session is free.

About 75 minutes. A warm-up that eases everyone in, build-up sprints, a few skill stations and a game where nobody can defend you. Yes, really.

  1. Find the flag.Look for the Second Half flag at the field. Your reminder text has a photo of the exact spot.
  2. Check in and meet your Buddy.A regular who introduces you to the crew, warms up next to you and plays in your trio.
  3. Warm up.Ten minutes, everybody, every time. Then build-up sprints, never all-out.
  4. Learn a little.Throwing, catching and snapping in small groups with patient coaches.
  5. Play.A few rounds of The Rotation, then a game. Your first catch gets a shout-out.
  6. The Fifth Quarter. Some days the crew grabs coffee or tacos after. Always optional.

Wear

Sneakers or turf shoes (molded cleats are fine, no metal cleats), clothes you can move in, and layers: January mornings start cold. A hat and sunscreen help too.

Bring

A water bottle and your phone for check-in. Leave the watch and jewelry at home. Bringing a friend? Their first session is free too.

Prices

Rookie Day is free. The rest is simple.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask.

I haven't run in years. Is this for me?

Especially you. Wear a green Rookie wristband, warm up with everyone, and run at late-for-a-meeting pace. Your speed is capped by how many sessions you've done, not how fast you used to be, and nothing goes above about 85% in the first 20 minutes. You'll be surprised what comes back.

What if I can't throw?

Then the coaches are there for you. We teach from the grip up, in small groups. At Rookie level nobody can defend you, so the only thing between you and a catch is a few reps. Plenty of Rookies have never played football at all.

Are women welcome?

Yes. Every session and every level is coed, and Rookie level has no defense at all, so it's a great place to start.

Who is it for?

Grown-ups who want to play. All levels: former athletes, people who never played, and people who'd rather run a route than a treadmill. Sessions are for adults 18 and up. Bring Your Kid sessions for teens with a parent are planned for spring 2027.

What about injuries?

The warm-up is never optional, we ramp up instead of redlining, and it's non-contact: no tackling and no blocking, ever. Tell the coach if anything feels tight and you'll play at Rookie pace that day and still play every game. Before your first session you'll answer a few health questions. If any answer is yes, check with your doctor before you play.

Do I have to join a team?

No. Practices and Squads are drop-in. Book the ones that fit your week. League Coming soon is there if you want a season.

Where is it, and when does it start?

San Marcos. Opening day is Sunday, January 10, 2027. Practices run Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Squads run Sunday mornings, with Rookie Day right before the Squad. You'll get the field address, parking and a photo of where to find us with your Rookie Day booking. The full schedule comes out in December, and founding members see it 48 hours early.

Why is a Practice $29 and a Squad $15?

A Practice is a coached workout. Coaches plan every minute, run the warm-up, teach at each station and give you feedback, so you're paying for coaching, the same way you would at a fitness class. A Squad is hosted pickup. A Host sets up the games and keeps them moving, but it's mostly just playing, so it costs about half as much. Most people mix the two, and a membership covers both.

When will I be charged?

Joining the waitlist is free, and so is Rookie Day. Founding memberships are charged starting on opening day, Sunday, January 10, 2027. Drop-ins are paid when you book.

What if it rains or gets too hot?

If we cancel for weather, heat or smoke, you get full credit or a refund. Calls go out by 6:00 am for morning sessions and 3:00 pm for evening ones.

Your level, best guess

Rookie: new, or back after years away. Varsity: you've played and want competition. You can change it any day.
